Balnafettach is a haven for wildlife and has a special status for the presence of ground nesting birds in particular.
Common ground-nesting visitors include Curlew, Oyster Catchers, Lapwings, Redshanks, Sand Pipers, Woodcock and Snipe.
An RSPB survey in 2010 put Balnafettach as the second most important haven for ground nesting birds in the Spey River catchment. A re-survey was undertaken in 2015 and we are currently waiting the final report.
