Balnafettach is a small family-run farm situated on the outskirts of the village of Cromdale, in the heart of the beautiful Scottish Highlands and located within the fantastic Cairngorms National Park. We farm one of the oldest Scottish native cattle breeds, pure Highland Cattle (long hair and big horns!) and small flocks of Texel and Jacob sheep – all on a part-time basis now.
Farming for us is not just about raising cattle and sheep but also nurturing traditional and rare breeds, while managing and developing the wonderful natural environment in which Balnafettach is situated (see Balnafettach Farm).
One of our regular guests is a much better photographer than we are and he has a blog with some of the truly amazing photographs he took at the Lodge in 2016, including some absolutely spectacular pictures of a snipe in flight and no less than 3 different Ospreys – David Potter Lochan Lodge Blog 2016
David has been back this year and taken more stunning photographs within the grounds of Balnafettach (Ospreys, Butterflies, Flowers and …. a Pine Marten!) David Potter Lochan Lodge Blog June 2017
